Psalm 121

As I was writing the below entry on the “scary ghost story”, I read the news this morning on the 8.5 richter scale earthquake in our neighboring country, Indonesia (Sumatra) in the wee hours of this morning. Some parts of Singapore had also felt the tremors of this earthquake and arose much alarm and fear. Phone calls were ringing in the newsroom and I think many called close friends and relatives. Everyone is scared. What if there is another tsunami attack, what if our block collapse, what if there is a flood and we could not get any food, what if.. what if… what if….

The Holy Spirit brought Psalm 121 (NIV) to my mind :-

I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from ?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth
He will not let your foot slip – He who watches over you will not slumber;
Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm - He will watch over your life;
The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Just so apt and appropriate. Thank you Jesus.

In this world, everything is temporal and ever-changing, but with Jesus, His words are constant, they are the same yesterday, today and forever. When He said He will not fall asleep while we sleep but watch over us still, He meant it. When He said He will keep us from all harm and keep us safe in our coming and going, He meant it. God cannot and will never lie.

Let’s continue to put our trust in Him and rest well. Remember, Jesus never sleeps, He is forever interceding for us at the Father’s right hand.
